Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement 2022/23

Introduction

This statement sets out Langstone Safety and Workwear actions to understand all potential modern slavery risks related to its business and to put in place steps aimed at ensuring that there is no slavery or human trafficking in its own business and its supply chains. This statement relates to actions and activities during the current financial year, and is reviewed on an annual basis.

Langstone Supplies is absolutely committed to preventing slavery and human trafficking in its own activities, and to ensuring that its supply chains are free from slavery and human trafficking.

The organisation expects all those in the supply chain to comply with Langstone ethical compliance requirements. We adopt a zero-tolerance approach to slavery and human trafficking. Suppliers are required to demonstrate that they act ethically and within the law in their use of labour. Where suppliers are unable to demonstrate this standard, the organisation will look to terminate the business relationship.

Policies in Relation to Slavery and Human Trafficking

The organisation operates the following policies and procedures to identify modern slavery risks and prevent slavery and human trafficking in its operations.

Langstone strives to maintain the highest standards of employee conduct and ethical behaviour and requires its suppliers to do the same in managing their supply chain.

We work closely with all supply partners to advise of the recommended and minimum standards required by Langstone in the manufacture of their products or procured services. Suppliers are expected to comply with national and other applicable laws, whichever affords the greater protection.

In respect to the use of Agency staff, Langstone uses only specified, reputable employment agencies to source labour and always verifies the practices of any new agency it is using before accepting workers from that agency. Langstone ensures all potential employees have the legal right to work in the UK and the relevant employment legislation is adhered to.

Risk assessment and Due Diligence

The organisation has several measures in the assessment of new and existing suppliers. Suppliers undertake written enquiries when considering taking on new suppliers, and regularly reviews its existing suppliers’ policies on Modern Slavery and Human trafficking, especially the procedures and certifications under which their manufacturers operate.

The business undertakes an assessment of all supply partners through our procurement and audit teams to determine the risk exposure of supply partners. We regularly visit supply partners to conduct production facility audits. The Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Act 2015 is included in our assessments.

All supply partners are required to confirm they comply with and have not been convicted of an offence under Section 1, 2 or 4 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. Failure to comply will result in termination of contracts.

The organisation has in place systems to encourage the reporting of concerns and the protection of whistle blowers.

The organisation expects each supplier in the supply chain to, demonstrate due diligence with respect to their supply chain. It is not practical for Langstone Supplies (and every other participant in the chain) to have a direct relationship with all links in the supply chain.

Performance Indicators

Langstone Supplier uses the following key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure how effective it is to ensure that slavery and human trafficking is not taking place in any part of its business or in its supply chains.

o Reviews of the recruitment and payroll systems to ensure recruitment and employment practices remain legally compliant.
o Reviews with direct suppliers to understand the level of communication and personal contact with the next link in the supply chain and the understanding of, and compliance with, the organisation’s expectations.
o Use of the whistleblowing Policy in relation to Modern Slavery and Human trafficking.

Training

To ensure a high level of understanding of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in the supply chains and within the business, Langstone Supplies provides training to relevant members of staff. Forms of training include, on line learning, training courses provided by quality and ethical and sustainability representatives and partners.

Training will continue with a focus on responsible procurement in the supply chain.

This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes Langstone statement for the financial year 2022/2023 and has been approved by the organisations Board of Directors.
